He is a professor of general medicine at the University of Bergen and holds a PhD in sleep research. For many years, he has researched sleep and sleep problems and has had thousands of patient consultations addressing various sleep-related issues.

Presentation

Marte Roa Syvertsen

"Stress and Brain Function – How to Achieve Optimal Brain Health with Non-Pharmacological Methods"

Marte is a physician with a PhD in neurology and researches how stress affects the brain – and how non-pharmacological methods such as breathing techniques, meditation, mindfulness, and yoga can be used as part of medical treatment.

In this lecture, she draws connections between these methods and the scientific basis behind them: Why do they work – and should they play a larger role in future healthcare?

Marte is also a recognized communicator and author of three popular science books about the brain. In her latest book, The Brain – A Biography, she explores, among other things, stress and the brain's ability to change and repair itself throughout life. In 2025, she received the Norwegian Neurological Association's communication award.

AFTERNOON TEA

Maria Økter & Lars Erik Johansen

Discover the magic of tea - from Japanese matcha to British Afternoon Tea

Join tea experts Maria Økter and Lar Erik Johansen from Le Palais Des Thés on a historical tea journey.

The history of tea is long, exciting, and varied. From the time the English created a culture around tea through their traditional Afternoon Tea.

Matcha, the interest in the ancient tea ceremony in Japan, has had a "renaissance" in modern times, and we now see a whole new and young generation drinking matcha, giving new life and twists to this drink.

Maria runs Le Palais Des Thés in Norway and has contributed to tea interest, knowledge, and joy for several decades. Lars Erik has studied the tea ceremony for almost five years and is certified by the Omotesenke school in Kyoto.

Lecture

Hedda Norevik Gasmann

"How does the food we eat actually affect our brains?"

Hedda holds a master's degree in clinical nutrition and has specialized in plant-based diets and lifestyle diseases.

Can diet reduce the risk of dementia and Alzheimer's? In this lecture, we will take a closer look at the much-discussed MIND diet, the Mediterranean diet, and what the research actually says about the connection between food, memory, and brain aging.

Through exciting research, concrete examples, and practical advice, you will gain insight into how lifestyle and diet can play an important role in brain health – both today and later in life.

Lecture

Sine Stokke

"Sun, wellness, and safe protection: What you should know about the sunscreen you use?"

Sunscreen is a highly relevant topic – and there's a myriad of information out there. Sun is important for energy, vitamin D production, and well-being, but good protection is just as vital.

The question is: what should you use, and what should you be aware of? As a chemical engineer, I will today guide you through the essentials – from ingredients and filters to what the numbers on the bottle actually mean.

Guided mushroom foraging tour

Martin Arentz

"In search of the forest's gold"

Join us in the forest and discover the tranquility, scents, and hidden treasures among the trees.

A forest walk combined with mushroom picking offers fresh air, nature experiences, and the excitement of finding trumpet chanterelles and perhaps other delicacies. A break from everyday life where nature takes center stage.

Guided tour of the vineyards with a talk

Martin and Danilo

"What does it take to make wine?"

Not all grapes are made for wine. Table grapes are sweet, juicy, and grown to be eaten fresh, while wine grapes have thicker skins, higher sugar content, and more acidity – exactly what is needed to create flavor, structure, and balance in wine.

To make wine, grapes must have the right ripeness, enough sugar for fermentation, and a good balance between acidity and aroma. It is the combination of grape variety, climate, soil, and craftsmanship that transforms a simple grape into a glass of wine with character. We will show you how we know the grapes are ripe and what it takes to make wine.

Deep relaxation
